Registering for Referee Classes

Ok, you've gotten into AYSOU - what now?

Some folks can't find the correct training course in AYSOU and it can be confusing. We promise you the courses are there and nobody is pranking you.
So - What training do you need?
Before anything - all users must complete or be currently certified in:

  • Safe Haven
  • Concussion Awareness
  • Sudden Cardiac Arrest

For 6U Referees :  We require the 8U Online training at a minimum - yes, that's correct, the 8U training. Go to "Online Courses --> Refereeing Courses --> 8U Official Course"

    • Take the course and get your certificate. Be sure to complete the course.
    • There will be an opportunity to attend a ~1 hour in-person training after online training is completed. Here is a link for sign-up.

For 7U, 8U and 10U: We require Regional Referee training which has two required components. The online course and the in-person companion course. To complete the online course: In AYSOU go to  "Online Courses --> Refereeing Courses --> Regional Referee Training"

    • Take the course and get your certificate. Be sure to complete the course.
    • After completing  the online course,  You'll need to register for and complete the in-person training (3-4 hours). There will be several opportunities to attend this training - we recommend completing this early and not waiting until the last session.
    • In AYSOU go to "In-Person Courses -->Referee Instructor Led Courses (Open) --> Regional Referee Online Companion Course (Open)" and then click on "Sessions"

    • *This is the confusing part - a person might think the search would be at the top? 🤔  But no, scroll to the bottom of the list and enter "Ventura" and it will return all available classes in our region.

    • The available classes will list in date order (the screenshot below is NOT THE CURRENT LIST - it's just for illustration)

    • Clicking on the class name gives the detail about the class - then clicking "register" registers the person for the class.
    • After registering, an odd message comes up saying " There are no sessions that match your search criteria" - I don't know why. what?
    • Clicking on the search magnifying glass again returns the previous search and shows you're registered.
    • If you accidentally register for the wrong class -  you can "unregister" for it by clicking on it and selecting... not coincidentally - "Unregister".
3 IMPORTANT things
  • In-person training is the final portion of the training and cannot be taken until the ONLINE portion of the training is completed.
  • Please register for the class prior to attending to be sure you're in the system.
  • The referee must attend the entire class and we will start promptly on time.
Every year we have multiple people arrive without the pre-requisite items completed and they are turned away frustrated and angry.

If you have any questions, please contact [email protected].

We prefer region 39 referees attend training within our region but sometimes circumstances/dates don't line up. Nearby regions often have sessions on different days an at different times. Those are found on AYSOU as well - search for the city as you did with Ventura. Other regions often charge a fee that is paid by the referee attending - since we offer sufficient sessions - the region doesn't cover that cost.
