Become a Referee - must be 12 years old
Everyone - do these things first
- Complete your current year volunteer form using your own account (Email address.)
- Only if you're an adult - Request your background check. Check your email for a notification from Sterling Volunteers and respond to it.
- No Email? Check your spam folder. Background check delays often derail volunteering.
- Note: if you're a returning referee - your background check might still be valid - check the expiry date. You'll be prompted to renew it approximately 30 days prior to the expiration. That's the time to renew.
NOW - complete the following
- Complete the training specific to the age level you intend to officiate. Previous referee certification doesn't expire.
- Only if you're an adult and have never done this for AYSO - Complete Live Scan online fingerprinting service - We had 7 free events this pre-season. However, if you've missed the free events - you can self pay. We are working to get another event scheduled but the providers are overbooked.
- Complete the safety courses in the AYSOU/etrainu Training Library
- Note! - If you've previously completed Safe Haven, Concussion Awareness or Sudden Cardiac Arrest training - you don't have to repeat!
- ONLY if you're an adult - complete SafeSport - This takes a few hours - all online - progress can be saved. It is legally mandated training for all adults participating in youth sports. Here's additional information on SafeSport.
- Everyone - Sign up for an account in the CGI Game Scheduling system - even if you previously had an account - accounts are deleted each year.
