Referee Point System Explained

The Referee Point System Explained

AYSO is a volunteer based organization and does not allow coaches, referees or board members to be paid. Each season AYSO Region 39 needs to fill approximately 2000 referee assignments in order to cover the games from the 6U through 18U divisions.
Each team is required to provide 2 trained and certified referees. Referees earning points for any team in the 10U, 12U and 14U division must be a parent, guardian or relative of the player on the team.

PLEASE NOTEYou do not need to referee games in the same division as your child if you don't have the proper certification. Example: your child plays 14U (requires an Advanced referee certification) but you have a regional certification - you can still earn points by refereeing a 10U game. (Recommended: Get more training and upgrade your certification!)

Earning Points

For any regularly scheduled 10U through 18U division game a team will receive:
  • 3 referee points for providing a center referee
  • 2 referee points for providing an assistant referee
For divisions 6U, 7U, 8U teams will receive
  • 2 referee points - limited to a maximum of 10 referee points per season

  • All team referees combined may only earn a maximum of FIVE(5) referee points per day
  • Youth referees may only earn points for One (1) game per week
  • Teams may not request or receive unused referee points from other teams or referees

REQUIREMENTS - yes, these things are required

  • Every team in the 10U, 12U and 14U division must earn 21 referee points during weeks 1 through 7 to advance to a playoff round.
  • Every team in the playoffs must earn a minimum of 4 points in each of weeks 8,9 and 10 in order to be eligible for Championship Saturday.
In order to earn referee points, volunteers must do each of the following:
  • Have taken the Basic Referee course and be certified as a Regional Referee OR higher
  • Take Safe Haven AND Concussion Awareness for 2019
  • Create an account in CGI and list the team(s) for which they are earning points
  • Sign up to referee games on a weekly basis in CGI
  • Arrive 20-30 minutes in advance of the game, in full uniform, ready to referee - see the "On Game Day" section here for reference.
  • Referee the game and have fun - because refereeing is fun
  • Fill out the game cards completely. Print name and team number clearly (ex: b10u-07)
  • Turn the game cards in to the Division Coordinator

Any changes or exceptions to this policy must be approved by the Regional Referee Administrator
